The Sigelock hydrant represents the first significant new design in fire hydrants in more than a century. Like virtually all ingenious designs, the Sigelock hydrant is simple to install and deploy. Water outlets and the operating spindle are shielded behind a ductile iron and stainless steel “clamshell”. The Sigelock hydrant can be opened by a special design wrench, which exerts 3,000 pounds of force…and unlocks the hydrant in less than five seconds. The wrench holds the lock open until authorized water or fire personnel replace the locking cap and the tool is released.
